Ngongo Chronicle by Ron Singer te. This is the third in a trilogy about Africa. The other two works, commented on at this site, are Uhuru Revisited and The Real Presence. This book has not yet been published but I was lucky enough to get a copy in advance and hope it will be available to readers very shortly. For Uhuru Revisited, Ron interviewed African leaders who favor democracy. The Real Presence is a novel which conjures up the warmth of African people against a backdrop of turmoil. This final work is also a novel. It throws us into the ferment of African political unrest. The book is divided by two very different voices. First, we meet Pierre, a scholarly and endearing young man, drawn into the role of assassin. Then we see the coup from the point of view of the dictator who is the target of the assassination attempt.
The book is laced with pithy proverbs which reflect the philosophical mindset to the culture. “Hunger pushes the hippopotamus out of the water.” This may explain how Pierre finds himself in a role so contrary to his nature.
I am hoping that this book will come out soon. I’ll read it again! (and write more).
